Roundtable Discussion: Creativity, Nature and Materials 🌿

What becomes of the things we no longer notice: waste, an abandoned object, a familiar landscape? How can creative practices transform them, and in doing so, change the way we see the world?

The Alliance Française de Siem Reap is hosting a roundtable discussion in French bringing together two artistic practices that explore materials, place and transformation. The event follows on from the exhibition “Après la pluie” (After the Rain), presented at The River Gallery, and takes place as part of Louise Covillas’s residency with the Institut français, within the La Route des Résidences programme.

The speakers
Louise Covillas, visual artist. Her practice revolves around sculpture and installation, using objects and materials collected during her travels, often humble and unassuming. She explores ways of coexistence between humans and non-humans, as well as the traces and subtle transformations of an environment.
Alix Langlois, founder of Trash is Nice, a social enterprise based in Phnom Penh that transforms plastic waste into durable design objects. At the intersection of craftsmanship, design and environmental awareness, she gives new value to a material often perceived as worthless.

On the programme
A moderated discussion between the two speakers exploring the collection and transformation of materials, the challenges of artistic creation, and how art can change the way we see the world, followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion with the audience.
